THE THOUGHTS OF A YOUNG BLACK MAN
By: Jeffrey King
Growing up as a child I always admired my father and wanted to be just like him when I grew up but someone once told me life is like a paper and pen you are the paper and the decisions you make are the pen so basically the point is you have to write your own story you can’t go off of what someone else made their story for them because things that may have worked for them will not work for you because you are your own person so the decisions you make are going to determine whether you succeed in life or if you don’t do so well.
Personally I have always had a lot of things going through my mind such as do your homework or don’t do your homework when you do your homework you get good grades and you go to college and you are able to have a good life that’s a good thing to get written on your paper but if I don’t do my homework then not only I get bad grades im going to get in trouble and thats not going to be good on your paper so whenever you temptation comes in your way you have to think I am the paper and I have the pen in my hand am I going to write something good on my paper or is it going to look bad on my paper.
As young men we often face many different obstacles in our life mentally being and physically such as depression or as simple as afraid to go outside in a hoodie or being afraid of being pulled over by the cops and we often think how long is this going to go on and how long do we have to struggle with this how long do we have to be afraid to lose our live or how long am I going to suffer with things going on in my head because there is so much sin in the world even if you are saved it is hard not to think about temptation but the great thing is God doesn’t judge you or put you down for that. If you have ever listened to great poets such as Maya Angelou or Langston Hughes you will know that it is possible to make a change in the world, they dealt with all types of things such as they weren’t allowed to sit in the same diner as a person of another color.
As Gandhi said “be the change you want so see in the world” because even when you don’t know or you think your not you are always influencing someone who is younger than you coming up in the world and if you don’t watch what you are doing as a young man the next generation is going to follow behind you in your footsteps that’s is why older people who have already been in the stage that we are in today always say this generation is so important because whatever we do is going to influence the generations behind us and after those whatever we do in our generation is going to influence generations for 100s of years to come example climate change right now all of the gas we are emitting into the air is changing the world everyday and its going to hurt us for 100s of years even though we won’t be hear in 200 years your grandkids and their kids will and they are going to follow in our same footsteps because that is how we taught them we are an INFLUENCE so before you do something think about your paper and how its going to look and always remember you hold the pen you make your decisions over your life.
